TYPES OF MOTORCYCLE BATTERIES:

Want to choose the type of battery for your motorcycle?

What are the types of motorcycle batteries?

A battery is a specialized device used to store energy. It can be recharged repeatedly, and it will provide the machine it powers with continuous operation. Without a functioning battery, no modern vehicle would be able to function. It is he who provides the direct current necessary for the operation of many components in motorcycles or cars. The basic principle of proper battery operation is not to leave it dormant for long periods of time. In order to be able to start your machine without problems at the start of the motorcycle season, you need to check and recharge it regularly. An unused motorcycle battery will discharge after some time and be useless.

– Lead-acid battery
This is the oldest type of motorcycle battery. It has liquid electrolyte in it, which evaporates over time. This type of battery requires checking its condition at least once a month. The undoubted advantage of this battery is its low price. It fits older models of motorcycles that are not overloaded with electronics.

– AGM batteries
These are batteries of a new type. Their construction is slightly more complicated than the previous type of batteries. They consist of positive and negative plates with fiberglass between them. The plates are special mats into which the electrolyte soaks. When you buy a new AGM battery, you get a product with an empty battery and electrolyte packed in a separate container. You have to fill the battery yourself, so you are guaranteed a longer life. Their advantages are durability, so you don’t have to replace them so often, and higher power. These parameters make these types of batteries have fewer problems after the autumn-winter season.

– Gel batteries
They work well in motorcycles that have many additional gadgets (for example, navigation, ABS or heated grips). Silica gel is added to the electrolyte, hence their name.

– Lithium-ion batteries
They are distinguished by their incredible light weight. They are ideal for motorcycles where the lowest possible weight is important. They are acid-free, so they can be placed in any position without the risk of spillage. They are characterized by long life and express charging rate. Unfortunately, they are the most expensive of all batteries.
